We listened to Spokane, WA emcee St. Cule on his first solo release, American Beef. It features 27 tracks of hard-hitting, gritty stories of love, betrayal, and life layered on top of drum heavy beats. Showcasing guest appearances by Rakaa Iriscience of Dilated People, Pace Won, Voo Da Teach, Copywrite and more.
If you don’t know everything you need to know about St. Cule, the self-proclaimed, working class rapper in the hefty 27 tracks, you’re not listening close enough. He takes shots at others, but isn’t afraid to be introspective and speak on his own shortcomings. That is something that we can appreciate, when an artist opens up to their fans and lets them know that they also are not perfect but are striving for more. “In the Shadow” echoes this sentiment where he expresses the disappointment of not living up to the expectations of others. He then playfully jumps into a track like “Makin Luv” which is more or less a love letter with displays of lust. We can hear his heartbreak on the track “Don’t Act” which is an audible wave of his middle finger to a girl who did him wrong.
Listen out for tracks like “Armed with 26 letters” where he displays his lyrical skill. “Menace” and “Get at Me” featuring Pace Won are straight bangers. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed this album. Albeit lengthy, we definitely have a good feel for who St. Cule is and the message he is trying to get across.
Look out for the album, American Beef on June 27th!
